80 persons test positive for COVID-19

Daily COVID-19 detections remained below 100 for the second day in a row with 80 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The previous day, 83 COVID-19 patients were detected. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 2,468 PCR tests and 1,920 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Thursday.

Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 patient count currently stands at 662,505. This includes 74,853 detections this year, as well as 483,090 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 138,920 patients from Colombo, 114,303 patients from Gampaha, 58,195 patients from Kalutara, 45,534 patients from Galle, and 31,473 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,623 persons from Colombo, 95,769 persons from Gampaha, and 51,137 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 3,528 persons are under medical or home-based care and 550 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 20 persons were released from care yesterday. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 642,488.
