772 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • 6,282 PCR tests conducted on Thursday

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 523,550 with the detection of 772 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 6,282 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Wednesday, 6,505 PCR tests and 3,878 rapid antigen tests were conducted. The COVID-19 patients detected on Wednesday include 771 persons from the New Year cluster and five persons from the Prisons cluster.

A total of 418,887 persons from the New Year cluster and 8,861 persons from the Prisons cluster have been detected to date. In addition to this, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have also been detected.

In terms of imported cases, 6,944 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 detections includes 111,036 persons from Colombo, 92,995 persons from Gampaha, 51,164 persons from Kalutara, 31,471 persons from Galle, and 25,250 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 78,739 persons from Colombo, 74,461 persons from Gampaha, and 44,106 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 31,560 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,517 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 435 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 478,761.
