747 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 573,649 following the detection of 747 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 745 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 6,744 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

The previous day, 7,337 PCR tests and 4,499 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 714 COVID-19 patients were detected. This includes 704 persons from the New Year cluster, six persons from the Prisons cluster and four Sir Lankan overseas arrivals.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 468,757 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,060 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the New Year cluster have been detected in the country.

In terms of imported cases, 6,999 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 116,137 persons from Colombo, 99,545 persons from Gampaha, 53,421 persons from Kalutara, 36,222 persons from Galle, and 28,066 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 83,840 persons from Colombo, 81,011 persons from Gampaha, and 46,363 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 13,575 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,283 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 382 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 545,433.
