743 arrested, nearly 28,000 inspected in countrywide Police operation

The Police Media Division yesterday said that 743 individuals were arrested on suspicion of involvement in criminal activities and drug and illicit liquor offences during a special island-wide operation on Saturday.

According to the Police Media Division, a total of 27,890 people were subjected to inspection across the country as part of the operation. Police said 16 individuals were identified as being directly linked to criminal activities, while 423 suspects wanted on outstanding warrants were taken into custody.

The operation also led to the arrest of 15 drunk drivers and 13 reckless drivers, while 3,944 individuals were cited for other traffic violations.

Police said similar island-wide operations are being conducted regularly to target drug traffickers operating at various levels, individuals engaged in criminal activity, and those in possession of illegal firearms.
