723 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 548,784, with 723 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

On Thursday, 715 persons tested positive for COVID-19 and the Epidemiology Unit states that 714 patients were from the New Year cluster and one patient was from the Prisons cluster. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 5,884 PCR tests and 3,388 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Thursday.

A total of 443,960 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,053 patients have been detected from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients have been detected from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 6,962 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 113,807 persons from Colombo, 96,448 persons from Gampaha, 52,330 persons from Kalutara, 33,931 persons from Galle, and 26,563 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 81,510 persons from Colombo, 77,914 persons from Gampaha and 45,272 persons from Kalutara. At present, 11,712 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,892 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 333 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 523,122.
