720 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 526,383 following the detection of 720 COVID-19 patients on Sunday.

According to the Department of Government Information, the 720 patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 7,073 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

The previous day, 5,853 PCR tests and 3,178 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 726 COVID-19 patients from the New Year cluster were detected.

A total of 421,751 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster, in addition to 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 8,882 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

A total of 6,944 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners are included in the country’s imported COVID-19 cases.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 111,333 persons from Colombo, 93,262 persons from Gampaha, 51,319 persons from Kalutara, 32,013 persons from Galle, and 25,339 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 79,036 persons from Colombo, 74,728 persons from Gampaha, and 44,261 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19. At present, 32,955 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,703 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 468 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 480,097.
