70 COVID-19 patients detected over the weekend

Weekend COVID-19 detections totalled 70, with daily detections dropping below 40 on Saturday and yesterday.

Yesterday, 37 persons tested positive for COVID-19. The previous day, 33 COVID-19 patients were detected. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 1,005 PCR tests and 622 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.

A total of 662,864 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 to date. This includes 75,203 detections since 1 January, in addition to 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 139,034 persons from Colombo, 114,341 persons from Gampaha, 58,210 persons from Kalutara, 45,575 persons from Galle, and 31,480 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,737 patients from Colombo, 95,807 patients from Gampaha, and 51,152 patients from Kalutara were detected.

At present, 3,815 persons are under medical or home-based care and 197 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that three persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 642,553.
