653 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose 593,725 with the detection of 653 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 651 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals.

On Tuesday, 619 persons from the New Year cluster and four Sri Lankan overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau stated that 6,357 PCR tests and 4,140 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.

In total, 488,813 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,081 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have been detected.

The Epidemiology Unit stated that 7,092 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners had also tested positive for the virus.

The country’s total COVID-19 detections include 118,995 persons from Colombo, 102,565 persons from Gampaha, 54,166 persons from Kalutara, 38,741 persons from Galle, and 28,824 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 86,698 persons from Colombo, 84,031 persons from Gampaha, and 47,108 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 11,043 persons are receiving medical or home-based treatment and 2,321 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 567,519 with 159 persons released from care yesterday.
