65 COVID-19 patients detected

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 662,657 following the detection of 65 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

Daily COVID-19 detections have been dropping gradually, with 33 patients detected the previous day. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 1,911 PCR tests and 1,229 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Sunday.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 75,020 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January. A total of 483,090 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have been detected.

The country’s imported cases include 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 138,981 patients from Colombo, 114,328 patients from Gampaha, 58,201 patients from Kalutara, 45,560 patients from Galle, and 31,479 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 106,684 persons from Colombo, 95,794 persons from Gampaha, and 51,143 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 3,657 persons are under medical or home-based care and 286 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation. Meanwhile, eight persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 642,508.
