64,086 persons vaccinated against COVID-19

COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 64,086 persons on Sunday and 74.28% of the country’s population has received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The second dose of a vaccine has been administered to 64.24% of the population, Our World in Data states.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 94.4% of the population over 20 years had received both COVID-19 vaccine doses as of 18 December.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 15,968,147 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 13,810,482 persons have received the second dose.

The booster dose has been administered to 2,505,477 persons. This includes 63,560 persons vaccinated on Sunday.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered as the booster dose and Sri Lanka received 820,000 doses of the vaccine from the United States of America. The vaccines were donated through the COVAX Facility and brings the total number of vaccines donated by the United States to Sri Lanka to 3.4 million.

The Pfizer vaccine has been administered as a first dose to 1,562,488 persons in Sri Lanka. The Epidemiology Unit states that 470,943 persons have received the second dose of Pfizer as well. On Sunday, 144 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 246 persons received the second dose. The first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 122 persons on Sunday and 14 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. In total, 11,962,117 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm and 10,977,773 persons have received the second dose as well. The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and the second dose has been administered to 1,418,593 persons.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 804,801 persons have received the first dose of Moderna and 787,361 persons have received the second dose.

The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,110 persons and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday said measures are being taken to make the vaccination card mandatory when entering public places starting next year. He added that authorities were hoping to provide an app or QR code for this purpose.
