6,097 persons vaccinated against COVID-19

COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 6,097 persons on Wednesday and 77.59% of the total population has received at least one vaccine dose in the country.

Second dose vaccine coverage among the total population is 65.77% and third dose coverage is 35.87%.

Health officials continue to urge the public to get the booster dose as the vaccines will expire in the coming months.

“In a few months’ time, the vaccines will expire and everyone must get the booster dose within this period. It reduces one’s chances of contracting COVID-19, which in turn prevents COVID-19 symptoms,” Physician Dr. Nandana Dickmadugoda said.

He added that it was especially important that the elderly as well as persons with chronic illnesses get the booster dose.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 17,009,684 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 14,420,607 persons have received the second dose.

The booster dose has been administered to 7,873,543 persons. This includes 3,393 persons vaccinated on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, 1,048 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 1,308 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. In total, the first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 2,518,045 persons and the second dose has been administered to 884,046 persons.

The first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 12 persons on Wednesday and a total of 12,048,097 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm. The second dose of the vaccine has been administered to 11,174,795 persons. This includes 336 persons vaccinated on Wednesday.

The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and the second dose has been administered to 1,418,593 persons.

A total of 804,801 persons have received the first dose of Moderna and 787,361 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
