592 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 543,385

Health officials stated that 592 COVID-19 patients were detected in the country yesterday, raising the total COVID-19 patient count to 543,385.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster, which has expanded to 438,696 patients.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 82,785 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,052 patients have been detected from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients have been detected from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 6,959 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

This takes into account the 581 COVID-19 patients detected on Wednesday, of which 580 were from the New Year cluster and one was from the Prisons cluster. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 5,630 PCR tests and 3,857 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 113,295 persons from Colombo, 95,825 persons from Gampaha, 52,124 persons from Kalutara, 33,654 persons from Galle, and 26,226 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 80,998 persons from Colombo, 77,291 persons from Gampaha, and 45,066 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 15,345 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,932 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 354 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 514,234.
