580 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • 654,916 COVID-19 cases detected to date
  • Includes 549,860 persons from New Year cluster
  • 19,926 persons currently under medical or home-based care
  • 113 persons discharged from treatment centres

Daily COVID-19 detections dropped to 580 yesterday and the country’s COVID-19 case count currently stands at 654,916.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster, the Department of Government Information states.

COVID-19 detections the previous day consist of 675 persons from the New Year cluster. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 4,954 PCR tests and 3,098 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 detections include 549,860 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliaygoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 7,236 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19. 

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients records 136,387 persons from Colombo, 113,247 persons from Gampaha, 57,667 persons from Kalutara, 44,670 persons from Galle and 31,053 persons from Kuruengala.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 104,090 persons from Colombo, 94,713 persons from Gampaha and 50,609 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 19,926 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,376 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 113 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 618,616.
