555 persons test positive for COVID-19

Health officials stated that 555 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the country’s total COVID-19 detections to 536,084.

The COVID-19 patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

A total of 431,447 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster to date. The Epidemiology Unit states that 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,043 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s imported cases include 6,953 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

This includes the 554 COVID-19 patients detected on Saturday, of which 553 were from the New Year cluster and one was a Sri Lankan overseas returnee. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 5,911 PCR tests and 3,100 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 112,553 cases from Colombo, 95,033 cases from Gampaha, 51,823 cases from Kalutara, 32,873 persons from Galle, and 25,830 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 80,256 persons from Colombo, 76,499 persons from Gampaha, and 44,765 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 19,085 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,825 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 298 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 503,388.
