552 persons test positive for COVID-19, 563 delayed cases added to total

 Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 534,975 with the detection of 552 COVID-19 patients yesterday and the addition of 563 delayed cases to the total.

According to health officials, the COVID-19 patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 563 COVID-19 cases reported between 8 October and 14 October were added to the total after verification.

The country’s total COVID-19 detections include 430,349 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,036 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 6,952 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

This includes the 555 COVID-19 patients detected on Thursday, of which 554 were from the New Year cluster and one was a Sri Lankan overseas arrival. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 4,153 PCR tests and 2,116 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Thursday.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 112,414 persons from Colombo, 94,821 persons from Gampaha, 51,787 persons from Kalutara, 32,832 persons from Galle, and 25,801 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 80,117 persons from Colombo, 76,287 persons from Gampaha, and 44,729 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 18,661 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,265 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation. The Epidemiology Unit states that 276 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 502,740.
