51 more COVID-19 deaths raise total to 12,731

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 12,731 after health officials confirmed 51 more fatalities on Sunday.

According to the Department of Government Information, 41 fatalities confirmed on Sunday were in the over-60 age category and 10 persons were in the 30 to 59 age category. Zero deaths were confirmed from the under-30 age category.

Of the country’s COVID-19 fatalities, 76.44% is in the over-60 age group, 22.39% is in the 30 to 59 age category, and 1.17% is in the under-30 age category.

Twenty-nine deaths confirmed on Sunday were male and 22 were female. Of the total fatalities, 7,113 are male and 5,618 are female. Meanwhile, Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramali de Silva yesterday said: “Close to 7,000 pregnant women have contracted COVID-19. Of this, 6,000 contracted the virus during the third wave. Fifty-five pregnant women have died of COVID-19 and all these deaths occurred after May this year.”
