44 persons test positive for COVID-19 over the weekend

Weekend COVID-19 detections totalled 44 with daily detections dropping below 40 on Saturday and yesterday.

According to health officials, 11 COVID-19 patients were detected yesterday. The previous day, 33 persons tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 1,637 PCR tests and 747 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.

A total of 663,373 COVID-19 patients have been detected to date. This includes 75,790 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 since 1 January. In addition to this, 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s imported cases include 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 139,260 persons from Colombo, 114,420 persons from the Gampaha, 58,244 persons from Kalutara, 45,640 persons from Galle, and 31,498 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,963 patients from Colombo, 95,886 patients from Gampaha, and 51,186 patients from Kalutara were detected.

At present, 742 persons are receiving medical and home-based care and 107 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

One person was released from care yesterday and the country’s COVID-19 recoveries total 646,126.
