345 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 656,386 following the detection of 345 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster, the Department of Government Information states.

The previous day, 311 persons tested positive for COVID-19 and all patients were from the New Year cluster. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 3,023 PCR tests and 2,109 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Sunday.

A total of 551,565 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have been detected.

The country’s imported cases include 7,236 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 137,041 persons from Colombo, 113,489 persons from Gampaha, 57,794 persons from Kalutara, 44,840 persons from Galle, and 31,174 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 104,744 persons from Colombo, 94,955 persons from Gampaha, and 50,736 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 21,018 persons are under medical or home-based care and 947 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 618,961 with 75 persons discharged from treatment centres yesterday.
