28 persons test positive for COVID-19

Health officials state that 28 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the country’s total COVID-19 detections to 663,329.

The previous day, 29 persons tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 1,071 PCR tests and 621 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Thursday.

The country’s total COVID-19 detections include 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In addition to this, 75,729 COVID-19 patients have been detected this year.

The country’s imported cases include 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 139,245 persons from Colombo, 114,416 persons from Gampaha, 58,244 persons from Kalutara, 45,637 persons from Galle, and 31,498 persons from Kuruengala have tested positive for COVID-19.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,948 patients from Colombo, 95,882 patients from Gampaha, and 51,186 patients from Kalutara were detected.

At present, 704 persons are under medical or home-based care and 179 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries total 646,121. This includes three persons released from care yesterday.
