260-bed, ICC improvised by 112 Brigade troops formally inaugurated

An old garment factory building, owned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Bus Depot at Badulla, was improvised as an intermediate care centre (ICC) for COVID-19 infectees by the Army and vested to health authorities on yesterday. 

Commander Security Forces - Central Major General Ranjan Lamahewage formally handed over this 260-bed ICC, in addition to Army-improvised ICCs at Bindunuwewa (200 Beds) and Kahagolla (190 Beds), already functional in the UVA province. 

On the instructions of the Commanding General Officer – 11 Division, and the 112 Brigade Commander, the 112 Brigade troops extended their skilled manpower and technical support for the improvisations in order to facilitate the essential requirements of the medical staff and operational mechanisms at the ICC.

The Uva Provincial Council, provincial political leaders, Badulla Municipal Council authorities, the District Secretary and staff at the District Secretariat, and the Regional Manager and staff of the SLTB Bus Depot extended their support lavishly for the newest ICC just opened at the depot premises. The new ICC consists of accommodation, medical, hygiene and TV facilities for patients.

This conversion process was carried out with the cooperation of GOC 11 Division Major General Kithsiri Liyanage and 112 Brigade Commander Brigadier Anura Disanayake. Uva Provincial Council Chief Secretary P.B. Wijerathne, Health Services (RDHS) Regional Director Dr. Hemantha De Silva, and specialist in Public Health Dr. Nimal Gamagedara were present at the official inauguration.
