22,919 frontline healthcare workers receive second dose of AstraZeneca

The second dose of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine was administered to 22,919 persons on Wednesday and Thursday, the Epidemiology Unit states.

A total of 3,445 persons received the second jab on Wednesday and 19,474 persons were vaccinated on Thursday.

In addition to the AstraZeneca vaccine, which will first be administered to frontline health workers and frontline police and military personnel, the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine was also administered this week.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,693 Chinese nationals working in Sri Lanka received the second dose of Sinopharm on Tuesday and 742 persons received the second dose on Wednesday. A total of 2,865 Chinese nationals working in Sri Lanka received the first round of Sinopharm. Of this, 2,435 have completed vaccination.
