A group of 21 alleged underworld figures deported from Dubai arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday morning, according to police sources.
The suspects were brought to the country on several flights diverted to the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport due to adverse weather conditions affecting operations at Bandaranaike International Airport.
Police sources said the group included individuals identified as “Mahawatte Chamara” and “Kudu Duminda,” who are alleged to have links to organised criminal activities.
Authorities said “Mahawatte Chamara” is expected to be handed over to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau for further investigations.
Police also said inquiries are continuing into the remaining suspects who were deported to Sri Lanka.
