2,971 persons test positive for COVID-19

The country’s COVID-19 detections rose to 167,712 with 2,971 persons testing positive for the virus yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 2,970 persons linked to the New Year cluster. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters have expanded to 160,765.

This includes 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 66,329 persons from the New Year cluster, 5,622 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 4,174 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 318 foreigners.

The 2,959 COVID-19 detected on Sunday include 554 persons from Colombo, 391 persons from Gampaha, 198 persons from Galle, 179 persons from Anuradhapura, and 174 persons from Kalutara. Sunday’s number comprises of 2,821 persons from the New Year cluster, 124 persons from the Prisons cluster and 14 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad who tested positive for COVID-19.

The overall district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 45,662 persons from Colombo, 30,534 persons from Gampaha, 13,924 persons from Kalutara, 8,358 persons from Kurunegala and 6,631 persons from Kandy.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 17,159 PCR tests were performed on Sunday.

At present, 26,015 persons are under medical care, including 960 persons at the Weligama Treatment Centre, 606 persons at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre and 518 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital. There are also 1,227 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation at various hospitals.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,296 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday having recovered from COVID-19. This includes 76 persons from the Punani Treatment Centre, 67 persons form the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre and 60 persons from the Panideniya Treatment Centre.

This brings the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 139,947.
