The country’s COVID-19 detections rose to 210,661 with health authorities confirming that 2,682 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
The patients detected yesterday include 2,637 persons from the New Year cluster and the cumulative patient count of the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters has risen to 203,901.
This includes the 108,977 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 6,443 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster detected in the island. While the clusters first emerged in October, only the New Year and Prisons clusters are currently active. The country’s imported cases include 4,483 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 318 foreigners.
The Epidemiology Unit states that, of the 2,646 COVID-19 patients detected on Monday, 2,566 were from the New Year cluster, 44 were from the Prisons cluster, and 36 were Sri Lankan returnees from abroad. The patients detected on Monday include 444 persons from Gampaha, 414 persons from Colombo, 392 persons from Ratnapura, 252 persons from Kalutara, and 206 persons from Kandy. The district distribution of the country’s total COVID-19 detections shows 52,644 persons from Colombo, 35,518 persons from Gampaha, 22,512 persons from Kalutara, 11,216 persons from Kandy, and 10,377 persons from Kurunegala.
Of the patients detected from the Western Province, 20,347 persons from Colombo, 16,984 persons from Gampaha, and 15,454 persons from Kalutara were detected during the third wave of the pandemic.
At present, treatment centres have 30,613 persons are under medical care and 1,498 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation.
Hospitals yesterday discharged 2,214 persons, bringing the total number of persons to recover from the virus to 178,259.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 17,096 PCR tests were performed yesterday. eanwhile, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) yesterday clarified that they did not request for travel restrictions currently in place to be extended by a further four weeks. “At the media briefing held on 7 June, I indicated that it takes three to four weeks to see the results of the present lockdown. This information has been misquoted by some media institutions,” SLMA President Dr. Padma Gunaratne said.
