2,312 COVID-19 patients detected over the weekend

Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 case count rose to 628,116 with 2,312 COVID-19 patients detected over the weekend.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,150 persons from the New Year cluster tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The previous day, 1,160 persons from the New Year cluster and two Sri Lankan overseas arrivals tested positive for the virus. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 6,325 PCR tests and 3,676 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.

A total of 522,522 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have been detected.

In addition to this, 7,206 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners make up the country’s imported cases.

Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 detections include 128,594 persons from Colombo, 109,265 persons from Gampaha, 55,807 persons from Kalutara, 41,259 persons from Galle, and 30,068 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 96,297 patients from Colombo, 90,731 patients from Gampaha, and 48,749 patients from Kalutara were detected.

At present, 17,280 persons are under medical or home-based care and 839 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 290 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 595,028.
