2,093 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 243,913, includes over 141,000 from New Year cluster
  • 4,902 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners among total COVID-19 detections

A total of 2,093 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 detections to 243,913.

Of the patients detected yesterday, 2,071 were from the New Year cluster. This brings the cumulative patient count of the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters to 236,747.

This includes 141,966 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 6,866 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster. In addition to this, 4,902 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, 59,060 patients from Colombo, 42,140 patients from Gampaha, 26,620 patients from Kalutara, 12,955 patients from Kurunegala, and 12,765 patients from Kandy have been detected.

This includes 26,763 detections from Colombo, 23,606 detections from Gampaha, and 19,562 detections from Kalutara during the third wave. The district distribution includes the 2,131 patients detected on Monday, of which 271 were from Gampaha, 229 were from Colombo, 208 were from Ratnapura, 177 were from Batticaloa, and 144 were from Polonnaruwa.

Monday’s patients include 2,080 persons from the New Year cluster, 33 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, and 18 persons form the Prisons cluster. At present, 31,984 persons are under medical care and 1,341 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 2,009 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have thus risen to 209,296.
