170 COVID-19 deaths raise fatalities to 6,604

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 6,604 with the confirmation of 170 COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday.

The COVID-19 fatalities consist of 130 persons over the age of 60 and 40 persons between ages 30 and 59. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 75.55% of the total fatalities are above age 60, 23.36% are between ages 30 and 59, and 1.09% are below the age of 30.

Eighty-six fatalities confirmed on Tuesday were female and 84 were male. Of the total fatalities, 3,810 are male and 2,794 are female.

According to Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, of the 171 COVID-19 deaths confirmed on Monday, 118 deaths occurred in hospitals and 16 deaths occurred while the patients were being taken to hospital. The 37 fatalities confirmed on Monday occurred at home.
