159 more test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 93,595, includes 88,684 persons from triple cluster
  • 2,446 persons currently receiving treatment, 324 persons suspected of having COVID-19
  • Recoveries rise to 90,563 with 355 persons discharged from hospitals

A total of 159 COVID-19 patients were detected in the island yesterday as the country’s total COVID-19 patient count rose to 93,595.

Among those who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday were 120 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 17 persons linked to the Prisons cluster. According to the Department of Government Information, the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons triple cluster has increased to 88,684 patients.

In addition to the triple cluster, 2,760 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 215 foreigners are among the country’s total patient count.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 29,990 persons from Colombo, 18,469 persons from Gampaha, 6,719 persons from Kalutara, 4,207 persons from Kandy, and 2,921 persons from Ratnapura.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 2,446 persons are currently under medical care. The active patients include 129 persons at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 128 persons at the Krishnapuram Treatment Centre, and 92 persons at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre.

Hospitals are also observing 324 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 355 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday. This includes 127 persons from the Kopai Treatment Centre, 24 persons from the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 22 persons from the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre.

A total of 90,563 persons have recovered from the virus to date.
