15,819 persons vaccinated against COVID-19 on Sunday

COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 15,819 persons on Sunday, including 108 persons who received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine as a third dose.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the third or booster dose has been administered to 393 persons and it is the Pfizer vaccine that is administered as the booster. The first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 15,561,126 persons and the second dose has been administered to 13,463,511 persons.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to 92.1% of the country’s population over the age of 20.

According to Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians President Prof. Shaman Rajindrajith, 22,000 children with comorbidities have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 3,000 have received the second dose as well. No severe side effects have been reported from these children.

He added that 726,000 children between 16 and 19 years have also received a COVID-19 vaccine dose. “I believe that by the middle of the month, we will have vaccinated the remaining 600,000 persons from this age group that we have estimated,” Prof. Rajindrajith said.

A report is also being prepared on vaccination of the 12 to 15 age group and a decision will be made after the report is handed over to the Health Minister, he said.

On Sunday, the first dose of Pfizer was administered to 11,658 persons, the second dose was administered to 238 persons, and the third dose was administered to 108 persons. In total, the first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 1,218,831 persons and the second dose has been administered to 439,637 persons.

The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,900,512 persons and 10,685,593 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Sunday, 633 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 3,120 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.

Forty-six persons received the second dose of AstraZeneca on Sunday, raising the total number of persons to receive the second dose of AstraZeneca to 1,400,212 persons. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 1,479,575 persons.

The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 803,098 persons, of which 782,305 persons have received the second dose as well. On Sunday, 15 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.

One person received the first dose of Sputnik V on Sunday and a total of 159,110 persons have received the first dose of the vaccine. The second dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 155,764 persons.
