126 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 662,342 following the detection of 126 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The previous day, 113 persons tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 2,285 PCR tests and 1,616 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.

A total of 74,644 COVID-19 patients have been detected this year. The country’s local cases also include 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster. In addition to this, 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19. The Epidemiology Unit states that 138,868 patients from Colombo, 114,274 patients from Gampaha, 58,180 patients from Kalutara, 45,488 patients from Galle, and 31,466 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,571 persons from Colombo, 95,740 persons from Gampaha, and 51,122 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 3,407 persons are under medical or home-based care and 730 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 5,143 persons who recovered from COVID-19 between 24 March and 5 April, including persons who completed home-based care, were added to the total COVID-19 recoveries. This includes 14 persons released from care yesterday.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 642,449.
