11 new cases hike COVID-19 total to 3,298

  • 185 active cases, 38 persons suspected of having COVID-19
  • 12 persons discharged following recovery
  • Over 700 overseas arrivals yesterday

The total number of COVID-19 cases detected in the island rose to 3,298 yesterday with 11 persons testing positive.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the total number of COVID-19 cases includes 1,320 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 54 foreigners. Of the local cases, 950 are Navy personnel and their close contacts and 650 are persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.

There are 185 persons currently receiving treatment for COVID-19 and the Epidemiology Unit states 58 of the active cases are at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 55 are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), and 40 are at the Iranawila Hospital.

Of the patients under medical care, eight are foreigners. Additionally, hospitals are also monitoring 38 persons suspected of having COVID-19. The country has also recorded 13 COVID-19-related deaths to date.

The number of COVID-19 recoveries rose to 3,100 with the recovery of 12 persons yesterday. Of them, eight persons were discharged from the NIID, three persons were discharged from the Welikanda Base Hospital, and one person was discharged from the Iranawila Hospital.

The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that over 700 Sri Lankans returned to the island from various countries yesterday and have been directed to quarantine centres. This includes 420 persons from Dubai, 288 persons from Australia, 10 persons from Japan, and six persons from India.

A total of 6,182 persons are currently undergoing quarantine at 66 centres managed by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. The NOCPCO added that 43,684 persons have left centres having completed the process; including 136 persons who left various centres yesterday.
