1,476 persons test positive for COVID-19 over the weekend

  • 714 COVID-19 patients detected on Sunday

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 572,902 with the detection of 1,476 COVID-19 patients over the weekend.

The weekend COVID-19 detections include 762 persons who tested positive for the virus on Saturday and 714 persons who tested positive yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 710 persons from the New Year cluster and four overseas arrivals. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 7,337 PCR tests were conducted on Sunday.

The previous day, 7,187 PCR tests and 4,646 rapid antigen tests were conducted, and 762 patients were detected. Of this, 761 were from the New Year cluster and one was a Sri Lankan overseas returnee.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 467,292 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,054 patients have been detected from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients have been detected from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 6,995 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 detections shows 116,051 patients from Colombo, 99,372 patients from Gampaha, 53,371 patients from Kalutara, 36,169 patients from Galle, and 28,034 patients from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 83,754 persons from Colombo, 80,838 persons from Gampaha, and 46,313 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 13,237 persons are currently under medical or home-based care, and 1,935 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 545,051 with 425 persons released from care yesterday.
