1,246 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 579,685 with the detection of 1,246 COVID-19 positive persons over the weekend.

The Department of Government Information states that 551 COVID-19 patients were detected yesterday, all of which were from the New Year cluster.

The Health Promotion Bureau states that 6,504 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Saturday, 8,815 PCR tests and 4,415 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 695 COVID-19 patients from the New Year cluster were detected.

Of the total COVID-19 detections, 474,979 persons are from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons are from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,060 persons are from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons are from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 7,009 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients includes 116,653 persons from Colombo, 100,353 persons from Gampaha, 53,599 persons from Kalutara, 37,234 persons from Galle, and 28,351 persons from Kurunegala.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave include 84,356 persons from Colombo, 81,819 persons from Gampaha, and 46,541 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 7,607 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,827 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 557,326 after 10,144 recoveries between 29 November and 16 December were added to the total.

Yesterday, 365 persons were released from care.
