1,235 persons test positive for COVID-19

A total of 1,235 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 case count to 633,051.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

The previous day, 1,216 persons from the New Year cluster and one Sri Lankan returnee from overseas tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 6,967 PCR tests and 3,842 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

The country’s COVID-19 case count includes 527,364 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

Among the imported cases are 7,214 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 130,150 detections from Colombo, 110,009 detections from Gampaha, 56,193 detections from Kalutara, 41,712 detections from Galle, and 30,221 detections from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 97,853 persons from Colombo, 91,475 persons from Gampaha, and 49,135 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 20,796 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,288 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 287 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 596,329.
