1,217 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 631,816 with 1,217 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster, the Department of Government Information states.

The previous day, 1,249 persons from the New Year cluster and three Sri Lankan overseas returnees tested positive for COVID-19. 

The Health Promotion Bureau states that 8,242 PCR tests and 3,296 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.

In total, 526,148 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The imported cases include 7,213 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 detections shows 129,853 persons from Colombo, 109,830 persons from Gampaha, 56,144 persons from Kalutara, 41,599 persons from Galle, and 30,180 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 97,556 persons from Colombo, 91,296 persons from Gampaha, and 49,086 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19. At present, 19,875 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,085 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 596,042 with 393 persons released from care yesterday.
