1,181 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 614,659 with the detection of 1,181 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

The previous day, 1,150 persons from the New Year cluster and six Sri Lankan overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 8,972 PCR tests and 7,660 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

A total of 509,066 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,135 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s imported cases include 7,191 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 125,154 persons from Colombo, 105,947 persons from Gampaha, 55,167 persons from Kalutara, 40,268 persons from Galle, and 29,364 persons from Kurunegala are included in the country’s total case count.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 92,857 persons from Colombo, 87,413 persons from Gampaha, and 48,109 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 19,364 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,196 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 460 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 579,780.
