1,000 anglers join battle against invasive giant snakehead at Deduru Oya

Around 1,000 anglers took part in a fishing competition at Deduru Oya, Wariyapola, on Saturday (20), targeting the invasive predatory giant snakehead (locally known as Deduru Naya). The event, aimed at curbing the spread of the species in fragile freshwater ecosystems and raising public awareness, comes as the Government announced a ban on the import, sale, and transportation of several invasive fish from Southeast Asia, including the redline snakehead, knifefish, alligator gar, and piranha
