Insurance Association of Sri Lanka’s ‘Driven by Purpose, Defined by People’ HR conference a success

The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL), the official representative body of the country’s Insurance industry, successfully concluded its annual HR Conference at the Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams recently. The theme for this year’s conference was “Driven by Purpose; Defined by People” with a focus to “Commit, Connect, Conquer”.

The conference kicked off with an address by IASL President and HNB Assurance Executive Director/CEO Lasitha Wimalaratne, who touched upon the theme of the conference and the multiple challenges faced by the Insurance industry today.

The key highlight of the conference was the participation of SHRM India Executive Director Consulting and Capability Building Nishith Upadhyaya. 

SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management) is the world’s largest HR association that offers certification, training, advocacy, and resources for HR professionals and business. 

Addressing the audience, Upadhyaya gave insights into the topic “Outside in Perspective – People Analytics and workforce trends”.

Following this, the “In Conversation with CEOs” segment focused on the topic “Drive People Strategy aligned to key strategic themes” where IASL Vice President and AIA Insurance Executive Director/CEO Chathuri Munaweera and IASL Treasurer and Orient Insurance Managing Director/CEO Tanuj Edward shared their views.

Subsequently, Vidusha Nathavitharana, TedEx Speaker, Author, Top 50 Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Culture by “Thinkers 360” spoke to the audience on the topic “Strategic Synergy: Empowering HR to Commit, Connect and Conquer” and provided the audience with a deeper understanding into dissecting, reskilling and upskilling to be future ready.

Concluding the day’s proceedings was a panel discussion on “Mastering HR Practices – Benchmarking against HR practices/HR Transformation journey”. Three Corporate HR Leaders - CIPM Sri Lanka 2025/2026 President and INSEE Cement Chief People Officer Priyantha Ranasinghe, AHRP Sri Lanka Immediate Past President and Singer Sri Lanka PLC Director-Human Resources and Business Integration Roshan Kulasuriya, Global Rubber Industries Human Resources Director Chamindra Perera Dassanayake delivered thought-provoking observations during the discussion.

IASL President Lasitha Wimalaratne said: “It has been another highly successful conference, marked by the participation of leading industry experts who shared their valuable knowledge with the audience. We are delighted by the meaningful discussions and perspectives that highlighted the critical role played by IASL in shaping the Insurance industry in Sri Lanka. As an industry, we remain committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to strengthen the sector, ensuring it becomes more resilient, adaptive, and well-prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.”

Today, the IASL has grown into a vibrant body, encompassing the 28 registered Insurance companies in Sri Lanka.

The association remains committed to its core vision of fostering unity and collaboration among insurers, providing a platform to collectively address industry concerns and opportunities. Aligned with this vision is its mission to protect the Sri Lankan public through inclusive and comprehensive Insurance coverage, ensuring a more secure future for all.
