Continental Insurance Lanka Limited (CILL) was once again recognized as the Domestic General Insurer of the Year – Sri Lanka at the Insurance Asia Awards 2025, held in Singapore this July. The accolade places CILL among the top performers in the insurance industry across the Asia-Pacific region.

Presented by Insurance Asia Magazine, one of the leading publications in the region, the award marks the fourth consecutive year that CILL has received this honor. This achievement is a testament to the company’s sustained commitment to excellence, resilience, and growth despite the numerous challenges faced by the industry.

This recognition is CILL’s third international award in 2025, following its wins earlier this year at the Global Banking and Finance Awards, where the company was named Best Health Insurance Company – Sri Lanka and Fastest Growing Non-Life Insurance Company – Sri Lanka.

Over the past few years, CILL has proactively focused on delivering enhanced customer value, even amid the disruptions of the pandemic and subsequent economic challenges. CILLs end-to end automated medical claims process is already delivering strong impact, with additional investments underway to expand further automation across other claims operations. CILL obtained ISO 27001:2022 for information security management during the year, in addition to its existing ISO 9001:2015 certification.

CILL’s consistent growth trajectory has seen it outperform many long-established competitors, recording robust top-line growth while maintaining strong underwriting discipline. According to the latest published results, CILL achieved the best combined ratio among commercial insurers in 2024, underscoring its underwriting profitability. Early this year Fitch Ratings upgraded CILL’s Insurer Financial Strength rating to A(lka) from A-, and CILLs rating is attributed for CILL’s continued its cautious approach towards underwriting, strong capitalization and portfolio quality.

Commenting on the recognition, Mr. Gerry Gunadasa, CEO of Continental Insurance, stated: “Insurance is no longer what it was a few years ago. Today’s customers are well-informed and discerning; they cannot be retained simply by offering lower premiums. At Continental, we have consistently invested in understanding evolving customer needs and delivering solutions that meet and exceed their expectations. This focus has enabled us to stand out in the industry. Equally important is our investment in people—we believe that nurturing and retaining the right talent is critical. As a certified Great Place to Work, we take pride in creating an environment where our employees are engaged, empowered, and able to thrive.”
