The dream of a sustainable future, one that pulls humanity away from the edge of catastrophic climate change is no longer a vision. It is taking shape through the growing promise of renewable energy.

National Energy Day serves as a timely reminder of how the choices we make today can impact the future of Sri Lanka’s energy security and economic resilience. In the face of climate change, rising costs and geopolitical tensions, it is more important than ever that our island nation works towards transitioning towards cleaner and sustainable sources of energy.

As UN Secretary General António Guterres aptly stated, “making peace with nature is the defining task of the 21st century”. It’s a call to action that resonates across the globe, guiding nations to set their sights on long-term expansion into renewable energy. Investments in innovative technologies, strong grid infrastructure, energy storage solution and cleaner modes of transportation are all essential to transform Sri Lanka’s energy landscape. A vision that can be achieved with the partnership of the government, industries and communities.

For more than two decades, Vidullanka has been proud to contribute to this vision by pioneering renewable energy solutions across Sri Lanka. Today, the company operates 26 power plants, generating over 225 GWh of clean energy through a diversified portfolio of hydro, solar and biomass sources. Vidullanka has also expanded its footprint in energy markets overseas, taking its homegrown skill in design, construction, engineering expertise in renewable energy to the world. In 2025, the company reached another significant milestone and was certified as a carbon neutral entity, reaffirming its commitment to responsible operations and environmental sustainability.

Recognizing the value of implementing new technologies against the backdrop of a world with increasingly higher demand for energy, Vidullanka has stepped into new ventures and innovations. These include two wind projects a combined capacity of 60MW, a growing e-mobility network, and the development of 13 standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 130 MW across Sri Lanka. Vidullanka’s investments will help strengthen grid stability, improve energy reliability, and facilitate deeper integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
