DIMO has reaffirmed its position as a driving force behind Sri Lanka’s development, winning the prestigious Infrastructure and Utility Sector Award at the National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA) 2026, organized by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. Further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable business practices and responsible corporate leadership, DIMO was also recognized as the Runner-Up in the Excellence in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) category.
Driving Excellence Through Progressive Stewardship
Seven key operational pillars—Strategy & Leadership, Corporate Governance & Strategy, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Local & Global Market Reach, ESG, and Business & Financial Results—form the foundation of the NBEA Excellence Model, which recognizes organizations demonstrating outstanding business performance and sustainable growth.
Guided by its philosophy of Progressive Stewardship, DIMO has successfully transformed from a leading automotive player into a diversified, technology-driven engineering solution provider.
The conglomerate continues to fuel the dreams and aspirations of the nation through long-term investments, trusted global partnerships, and strong governance.
“At DIMO, our journey toward excellence is not merely defined by financial metrics, but by our unrelenting commitment to Progressive Stewardship, where organizational growth is synonymous with national progress.”
Engineering the Nation’s Backbone
DIMO’s Infrastructure and Utilities business has become a cornerstone of Sri Lanka’s economic growth, contributing to more than 70% of the country’s power grid substations. Through decades of engineering expertise and strategic international partnerships, the company continues to strengthen the nation’s transmission infrastructure while supporting the nation’s long-term energy security.
The successful completion of Sri Lanka’s largest greenfield grid facility, the New Habarana Grid Substation, represents a significant milestone in DIMO’s utility portfolio. Delivered in partnership with Siemens, the project strengthens the national transmission network, enhances grid reliability, and creates a strong foundation for future renewable energy integration.
DIMO has also demonstrated its engineering expertise in water infrastructure through the Ambathale Energy Saving Project, where its innovative solutions achieved an 80% positive variance in energy efficiency at Colombo’s primary water treatment plant, contributing to improved urban resource management.
Accelerating Renewable Energy and Engineering Innovation
Beyond grid transmission, DIMO’s growing Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio is driving Sri Lanka’s shift to clean energy. Following the recent addition of 18 MW across four utility-scale solar power facilities in the Galle district, DIMO’s cumulative solar generation capacity has reached 25.845 MW (AC).
Together, these utility-scale installations generate over 31.8 million kWh of clean energy annually, reducing carbon emissions by more than 12,900 tCO2e and supplying power to almost 38,000 families. Additionally, DIMO established a scalable blueprint for decentralized, self-sufficient energy systems by commissioning the country’s first microgrid project at the University of Moratuwa as a turnkey EPC contractor.
Delivering Engineering Excellence Across Industries
DIMO Energy keeps setting new benchmarks in specialized infrastructure for professional engineering. In addition to installations at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), DIMO successfully delivered Sri Lanka’s first ICC-compliant LED floodlighting systems at the renowned R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS) and Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium (RDICS). These projects combine world-class lighting performance with greater energy efficiency, supporting international broadcasting standards and sustainable stadium operations.
Beyond sports infrastructure, DIMO further demonstrated its engineering capabilities through the Cinnamon Life Integrated Resort, delivering comprehensive lighting solutions alongside sophisticated fire detection and extra-low voltage (ELV) systems, highlighting its ability to execute complex, large-scale private sector developments.
Sustainable Stewardship for the Future
DIMO’s recognition in the ESG category highlights its commitment to responsible business practices that create long-term value for both society and the environment. DIMO strikes a balance between operational excellence and environmental stewardship by implementing eco-friendly, mercury-free lighting systems and upholding strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across project sites.
Anchored by its Sustainability Agenda 2030, DIMO integrates ESG principles into its core operations across diverse sectors. The corporate vision focuses on three key pillars: Being a Resilient Business, driving ethical entrepreneurship, circular sourcing, and innovative product design; Building Resilient Communities, empowering local livelihoods, championing workforce diversity, and enriching impactful community initiatives; and Conserving a Living Planet, minimizing ecological footprints, and driving large-scale biodiversity restoration.
Validated by prestigious awards, including being named the Diamond Winner at the CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards 2025 and continuously ranked among the Top 10 Best Workplaces in Sri Lanka for more than ten years, DIMO continues to demonstrate that Sri Lankan engineering can lead with global standards while building a resilient, future-ready nation.
