Associated Motorways Ltd., (AMW), the sole distributor for Yamaha in Sri Lanka has announced the return of Yamaha motorcycles and scooters to the local market.
This long-awaited relaunch followed the Government’s decision to lift the import ban, effective from 1 February, ending a five-year pause in Yamaha’s presence on Sri Lankan roads.
To mark this significant occasion, AMW hosted a landmark launch event on 14 June, at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.
In a first for Sri Lanka, Yamaha’s latest lineup of motorcycles and scooters was unveiled through a unique fashion-themed celebration — a bold expression of the brand’s commitment to performance, style, and innovation. More than just a product reveal, the event signalled Yamaha’s return with confidence and flair.
The new model range, carefully curated to suit a wide variety of Sri Lankan riders, included both motorcycles and scooters with class-leading specifications and fuel efficiency. Among the highlights was the Yamaha RayZR 125, delivering an impressive 71km per litre, tailored for customers who demand both value and versatility. These models were introduced in response to customer feedback and market demand, reaffirming Yamaha’s customer-first approach to engineering.
AMW Group Managing Director Andre Bonthuys said: “Yamaha has always stood for innovation, excitement and an unmatched riding experience. Our comeback is not just about new models; it’s about redefining the journey for Sri Lankan riders. With this fresh lineup and a launch event unlike any seen before, we are setting a new benchmark in the local two-wheeler space.”
Yamaha’s re-entry into the market is backed by AMW’s legacy of trust, service excellence, and technical expertise. AMW recently hosted the Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix 2024, reinforcing its commitment to quality service and skill development. Yamaha’s global vision of “Kando” – the deep satisfaction and excitement evoked by experiences of exceptional value and performance remains at the heart of this relaunch, ensuring that every rider enjoys not just a vehicle, but an experience.
With the curtain now lifted and the wheels in motion, Yamaha’s return is set to reshape the landscape of mobility in Sri Lanka. AMW invites motorcycle enthusiasts and new riders alike to embrace a new chapter of performance, reliability, and design powered by passion, and made for those who are truly “Built to Ride”.
