Wimal appoints 22-member Advisory Council for Automobile Assembling and Automobile Components Manufacturing Industries

Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa with the Chairman and members of the Advisory Council of the Automobile Assembling and Automobile Components Manufacturing Industries in Sri Lanka

Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa has recently appointed the Chairman and members of the Advisory Council of the Automobile Assembling and Automobile Components Manufacturing Industries in Sri Lanka. 

The appointments were made as part of the program to focus greater attention on the 20 industries coming under the purview of the Ministry. The council consists of representatives of the respective Government institutions and private sector manufacturers. 

Sri Lanka Automobile Components Manufacturers’ Association President Dimantha Jayawardena was appointed Chairman of the Advisory Council. 

Its members are State Ministry of Transport Secretary S.M.D.L. De Alwis, Department of Imports and Exports Control Controller General T.V.D.D. Karunaratne, Ministry of Industries Director W.M.R. Wijekoon, Export Development Board Director Indika Sugathadasa, Sri Lanka Customs Director Mahinda Jayawardena, Board of Investment Director Prasanjith Wijayathilaka, Department of Motor Traffic Director S. Thennakoon, Industrial Development Board Director Eng. W.A.P.K. Nishantha, Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC Chairman Shantha Jayasena, and Ceylon German Technical Training Institute Deputy Chief Engineer W.S. Ferrnando, Dr. K.V.D.S. Chathuranga of the Moratuwa University and Dr. H.K.G. Punchihewa of the Peradeniya University, Micro Cars Director Asela Lihinikaduwa, Sri Lanka Automobile Service Providers Association President Ravith Silva, Ideal Motors Director Suren Galagoda,  Diesel & Motor Engineering Automobile Assembly Head Kosala Madawala, Leader Battery Manufacturing Chairman Dr. Shiyantha Cooray, UNIMO Enterprises CEO Mahesh Gunathilaka, TVS Lanka CEO Geethal Anthony, Accolade Engineering COO Rajiv Chandrakumar, and Nevorp Corporation CEO Sandeepa Wijesingha.

Addressing the gathering at the distribution of the appointments, Minister Weerawansa said that he was prepared to grant space at the Sooriyawewa Industrial Zone in the future, for industrialists allied to this activity. He stressed that the Industries Ministry was ready to swiftly develop and maintain the vehicle assembly industry. He said that with the introduction of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the number of automobile assembly plants in the country grew from three to 10 and thereby opened the way for many more industrialists with international brand names to come into the country.

Also present at the occasion were the Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Major General Daya Ratnayake (Retd.), Additional Secretary Chaminda Pathiraja, Advisor to the Ministry Sunil Hettiarachchi, together with other officials of the Ministry of Industries, officers of Government institutions and industrialists.
