SUVs sees over 4,800 registrations in April

SUV and crossover registrations fell to 4,853 units in April from 5,841 units in March. 

Brand-new registrations declined to 1,957 units from 2,740 units, while pre-owned registrations eased to 2,895 units from 3,101 units, according to data analysed by JB Securities. 

Toyota led the segment with 1,725 units, driven primarily by the Raize (1,204 units), Urban Cruiser (277 units), Yaris Cross (104 units), and Land Cruiser range (91 units), comprising the Prado LC150 (28 units), LC250 (47 units), and LC300 (16 units). Honda ranked second with 906 units, almost entirely from the Vezel (875 units).

Suzuki was third with 688 units, largely attributable to the Fronx (684 units). Nissan recorded 268 units, mainly the Magnite (263 units), while Kia posted 256 units, led by the Sorento (228 units). 

BYD followed with 200 units, predominantly Sealion variants (173 units). Other contributors included Chinese brands such as GAC, SAIC, Jetour, and Changan — mainly plug-in hybrid models — as well as Hyundai from South Korea. Land Rover recorded 49 units, including 30 Defender and 18 Range Rover units. SUVs with engine capacities below 1,500cc accounted for 95% of total registrations, while the financing share stood at 48.6%.
