Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gaia Green Energy Holdings Ltd., a prominent provider of solar energy systems, to promote sustainable energy adoption through affordable personal and small and medium enterprise (SME) loan facilities.
This partnership enables eligible customers of Gaia Green Energy Holdings to access special financing options from HNB to purchase solar electricity generation equipment. The initiative is designed to support Sri Lanka’s transition to renewable energy while easing the financial burden for households and small businesses. Under the terms of the MoU, HNB will offer personal loans and SME facilities to finance the cost of solar equipment for qualified customers.
HNB Head of Retail Banking/Senior Vice President Kanchana Karunagama said: “We are proud to collaborate with Gaia Green Energy in this timely initiative that aligns with our commitment to sustainability and financial inclusion. By offering tailored financing solutions, we aim to empower more Sri Lankans to embrace clean energy and reduce their carbon footprint.”
As part of the agreement, Gaia Green Energy will extend exclusive discounts on solar equipment and related products to HNB customers. The company will also actively promote HNB’s loan offerings through its offices and digital platforms, ensuring customers are well-informed about the benefits and process.
The collaboration supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy and Goal 13 – Climate Action, reinforcing HNB’s role as a catalyst for positive environmental change.
