BYD and its authorised distributor for Sri Lanka, John Keells CG Auto (JKCG Auto), have celebrated a milestone of 20,000 successful vehicle services since commencing operations last year.

The achievement underscores the scale and pace at which Sri Lanka has embraced New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), and reflects the sustained investment by JKCG Auto in building a robust, island-wide after-sales infrastructure to match that demand.

In just over a year since vehicle imports resumed, BYD has captured approximately 37% of all brand new vehicle registrations and over 70% of cumulative electric vehicle registrations in Sri Lanka.

To keep pace with this extraordinary uptake, JKCG Auto has aggressively invested in the expansion of its after-sales network, which already spans service centres across Colombo, Wattala, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala and Ampara.

Following its most recent expansion, JKCG is now able to deliver a combined daily service capacity of over 200 vehicles island-wide, powered by a team of over 150 BYD certified after-sales professionals.

The network is further anchored by Sri Lanka’s largest dedicated body shop at Seeduwa, with simultaneous capacity for over 100 vehicles. Complementing the service network, JKCG Auto has deployed over 43 fast chargers island-wide and provides a 7kW home charger to every customer, giving BYD owners the confidence to drive further, with charging access wherever they are.

BYD General Manager Assistant and Director of After-sales Service Centre, Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, Peter Feng, said: “Sri Lanka has emerged as a genuinely significant market in BYD’s South Asia journey, with an EV adoption rate that has exceeded all expectations. Reaching 20,000 successful services in just one year is a remarkable achievement that also gives us great confidence that John Keells CG Auto is exactly the right partner for this journey. Having seen their operations first-hand, we are excited to continue supporting the after-sales capacity here, and deepen our commitment to our Sri Lankan customers.”

JKCG Auto CEO Charith Panditharatne said: “From the time we first partnered with BYD, we were confident that this brand would resonate with all Sri Lankans. Even so, the demand we witnessed since vehicle imports resumed has outpaced all our initial projections. This demand has pushed us to grow faster, and better. We are committed to continuing this momentum and translate it into a standard of after-sales excellence that sets the benchmark in Sri Lanka, and South Asia.”

With 24-hour roadside assistance island-wide, a 10,000sqm spare parts warehouse with just-in-time delivery capability, and further service centre openings planned in Negombo, Anuradhapura, and Jaffna, JKCG Auto is building a standard for after-sales excellence, one that supports a full ecosystem required to sustain Sri Lanka’s sustainable mobility transition.
