BYD, the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, together with its authorised distributor in Sri Lanka, John Keells CG Auto (JKCG Auto), announced the grand opening of its comprehensive 3S facility in Kurunegala on 23 July.

Located along the Colombo road in Malpitiya, Boyaganne, the new facility represents another significant milestone as John Keells CG Auto’s (JKCG Auto) second fully-owned facility in Sri Lanka, following the flagship Union Place Colombo location. The state-of-the-art facility integrates Sales, Service, and Spare parts operations under one roof, providing customers with complete automotive solutions and enhanced convenience.

“We are excited to open our new facility in Kurunegala,” said John Keells CG Auto CEO Charith Panditharatne. “As our first fully-owned 3S facility outside Colombo, this centre reflects our commitment to delivering a seamless customer experience for all Sri Lankans, from vehicle purchase to aftersales support, while strengthening our presence in the North Western Province. This facility allows us to serve our customers with greater convenience, care, and consistent support throughout their ownership journey.”

The Kurunegala facility addresses the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions in a region driven by diverse automotive needs. With Kurunegala being a key commercial hub in the North Western Province, the new facility positions BYD to better serve customers who are increasingly seeking reliable, eco-friendly vehicle options.

The showroom will feature BYD’s range of advanced electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, many of which incorporate the brand’s proprietary DM-i super hybrid system and ultra-safe Blade Battery. Together, these technologies deliver a next-generation driving experience, combining fuel efficiency, extended electric range, and world-class battery safety. Meanwhile, the integrated service centre and spare parts facility ensures customers have access to genuine parts and professional maintenance services locally.

To celebrate the launch, JKCG Auto will host a dedicated Test Drive Event from 25 to 27 July, which will be open to all potential BYD customers. Following the success of recent test drive campaigns in Colombo, the event will give residents in and around Kurunegala the opportunity to experience BYD’s advanced line-up of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles first-hand.

The Kurunegala facility marks BYD’s continued expansion across Sri Lanka, with the brand now present in the Western, Southern, Central, North Western, and Eastern provinces. As part of its infrastructure development, JKCG Auto has also supported the installation of over 15 EV charging stations across key locations including Colombo, Negombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Karapitiya, Matara, Tangalle, Puttalam, and Kandy, making electric vehicle ownership more practical for customers nationwide
