BYD celebrates production of millionth record-breaking Seagull

On 30 June, at BYD’s Xi’an factory, a Seagull vehicle rolled off the final assembly line, marking the official achievement of 1 million cumulative sales. From launch to reaching this milestone, the Seagull took only 27 months, making it the fastest pure EV + A00-class model to reach the 1 million mark globally. The Seagull has redefined what customers around the world can experience in a compact EV, by offering cutting-edge technologies, efficient packaging and no compromise on equipment or safety.

In the competitive A00-class segment, the Seagull has delivered outstanding results. Since its launch in April 2023, it has topped the monthly sales charts for A00-class models 21 times and led the pure electric sedan segment 19 times. It was the annual best-seller in the A00 segment for both 2023 and 2024 and also took the top spot in the sedan category in 2024. Achieving 1 million units sold in just 27 months, the Seagull has delivered a rare “Seagull Speed” in the industry, setting a benchmark for growth in the global A00-class EV market.

The Seagull’s popularity spans the globe. In February 2024, it officially launched in Brazil, selling 7,635 units on launch day and breaking the country’s record for vehicle launch-day orders. By the end of 2024, it had registered 21,968 units in Brazil, making it the best-selling pure EV in the market. In Q1 2025, 6,554 units were registered — more than 50% of Brazil’s total pure EV sales — far exceeding the combined registration volumes of the next nine most popular EVs. In May, Seagull (Dolphin Surf) made a strong push into Europe, with simultaneous launches in 15 countries including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Poland, and Switzerland. The Seagull quickly became a rising star in the European market thanks to its excellent performance.
