The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Vavuniya at the SLIM home premises, opening up new opportunities for the best performing marketing students of Vavuniya University to be a part of the vast SLIM-produced marketing fraternity.

The MoU was signed for a period of five years with the Department of Marketing Management of the Faculty of Business Studies, with the aim of offering a gold medal and scholarship to the best marketing student pursuing the university’s Marketing Management Specialisation degree programme.

Representing SLIM at the signing ceremony were CEO and Executive Director Sanath Senanayake, Head of Education Dr. Kapila Fonseka, and Assistant Manager Education Hasani W. Hettige, while the University of Vavuniya was represented by Vice-Chancellor Dr. T. Mangaleswaran, Faculty of Business Studies Dean Dr. Y. Nanthagoban, and Department of Marketing Management Head S.A. Jude Leon.

Speaking about the partnership, Senanayake noted: “SLIM is proud to partner with the University of Vavuniya to recognise the outstanding performance of students through this new scholarship programme. The best-performing marketing student at the Department of Marketing Management will be awarded a gold medal and given the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge to further hone his or her marketing skills in a practical context. While this partnership will strengthen the relations between these two key institutes, we look forward to more such promising collaborations.”

Fonseka noted: “The purpose of this scholarship is to give much-needed guidance and support to best-performing marketing students who aspire to take an active leadership role in the corporate world. Each year, a deserving student following the Marketing Management Specialisation degree programme at the Vavuniya University will be selected for the scholarship. As the leading institute for marketing in Sri Lanka, SLIM is committed to opening up new doors to educate young minds that want to make a change through the power of marketing.”

The MoU was also executed in the spirit of further strengthening cooperation and collaboration between SLIM and Vavuniya University. As such, the two parties collectively believe that going forward, they will continue to negotiate in good faith to effectively implement the terms of the MoU in the next five years as well.
