FireCircle by G, a boutique strategic communications consultancy based in Colombo, recently concluded its inaugural ESG Communications Workshop titled “From Compliance to Brand Equity” at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.

The workshop addressed the growing need for stronger ESG communications and sustainability storytelling capabilities within Sri Lankan organisations, bringing together marketing, communications, sustainability, and ESG professionals from organisations such as Aitken Spence PLC, Hayleys Advantis, Sunshine Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Harischandra Mills, among others.

The half-day session focused on helping organisations move beyond compliance-led sustainability reporting and build clearer ESG narratives that strengthen brand trust, stakeholder engagement, and long-term reputation.

The workshop explored how sustainability initiatives are often confined to reports and disclosures, while organisations struggle to communicate impact effectively to consumers, investors, employees, and wider stakeholders.

FireCircle by G Founder and workshop facilitator Gayani Punchihewa noted that ESG communication is increasingly becoming a strategic business function rather than simply a reporting exercise.

“Many organisations are already doing meaningful sustainability work, but struggle to communicate it in ways that are human, credible, and aligned with their brand positioning. The workshop was designed to bridge that gap between sustainability work and strategic storytelling,” she said.

Participants were introduced to practical communication frameworks covering ESG storytelling, stakeholder communication, SDG alignment, narrative building, and translating sustainability initiatives into language that resonates both internally and externally.

The workshop also touched on the growing relevance of SLFRS S1 and S2 sustainability disclosure requirements in Sri Lanka, as listed companies prepare for increasing expectations around climate-related and sustainability-related reporting.

The session combined strategic discussions, case study analysis, and practical communication tools that participants could immediately apply within their organisations.

Following the positive response to the inaugural session, FireCircle by G plans to continue developing future workshops and advisory offerings focused on ESG communications, strategic storytelling, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement for Sri Lankan organisations.
